At Karner Blue Landscaping, we offer several soil testing options for our customers through the University of New Hampshire Extension Program.
In the early days of spring when we’re planning fertilizer, seeding, aeration, and dethatching schedules for customers, it’s best to understand the health and composition of the soil. Soil testing is inexpensive, and provides an extraordinary wealth of data. We normally obtain two samples per area tested which are submitted to UNH for their “Standard” and “Texture Class” tests. The data provided from the samples includes pH level, recommended fertilizer mixture, texture class (loamy, silty, or sandy), lead content, and more.
It’s considered prerequisite information for beginning any major yard renovations or finish landscaping for construction. It’s also incredibly valuable for simple projects like revitalize the health of soil for existing grass. Without soil testing, a landscaper could spend a lot of their customer’s good money on seed, fertilizer, watering, and more…without actually improving the health of the soil or grass.
With soil testing however, we can ensure we’re applying the correct types and amounts of fertilizer, addressing soil makeup issues, and seeding appropriately. So we don’t cost the customer or the company unnecessary money or time in the long run.
At KBL, we charge our customers only the exact cost for testing through UNH, plus 1/2-hour of labor which pays our time on site for sample collection, preparation at the office for mailing, postage, and reviewing the final report once received.
